Ep. 3: Writing Women Respectfully Part 1

Writing Women Respectfully

Have you seen the memes about men writing women poorly in movies, shows, and books? They are hilarious! But unfortunately, it’s not just men who struggle to write women respectfully. In this episode, I discuss the cliches of female characters, why authors rely on these cliches, and how you can avoid focusing on external features of your female characters. Writing a book with strong characters can be a challenge, but I’m here to support you and guide you through the process of writing women respectfully.

In this episode we cover:

  • The cliche that women characters need to be beautiful but can’t know they’re beautiful
  • Examples of women’s worth being dependent on men’s approval in popular songs
  • Why focusing on physical transformation is problematic for authors
  • How to show internal transformation in your characters
